Table of Contents: ------------------ NDIS Drivers and NE2000 Compatibility Section 1 Using the NE2000plus Adapter in Shared Memory Mode Section 2 Microsoft LAN Manager Section 3 Microsoft Windows for Workgroups Section 4 IBM LAN Server and other IBM Networking Products Section 5 Other products which utilize NDIS Section 6 PROTOCOL.INI Parameters Section 7 SECTION 1. NDIS Drivers and NE2000 Compatibility ------------------------------------------------- The NDIS drivers supplied with this network adapter conform to the NDIS 2.01 specification. They are compatible with network operating system or connectivity software which is written to the same specification. These drivers are compatible with both the NE2000 and NE2000plus Ethernet adapters. When using them with the NE2000, shared memory mode is not supported, and fewer options exist for configuring the INTERRUPTs and BASE I/O ADDRESS. See the section on PROTOCOL.INI parameters, below. SECTION 2. Using the NE2000plus Adapter in Shared Memory Mode ------------------------------------------------------------ -- Use the PLUSDIAG program to configure the NE2000plus adapter for shared memory data transfer mode. When the card has been set to run in shared memory mode, the driver will read the RAM parameter in the PROTOCOL.INI file to locate the memory area to use for data transfer. If the adapter is configured for programmed I/O transfer mode, the RAM parameter is read by the driver, but not used. SECTION 3. Microsoft LAN Manager --------------------------------- To install this driver on a Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2 system, insert the driver diskette and select "Other Driver" when at the network adapter installation screen. LAN Manager will read the diskette and display "MICRODYNE Technology NE2000plus Adapter" in the window. Highlight this choice and select OK. LAN Manager will now copy the software and support files to your hard disk. You will then be prompted to select the protocol(s) you wish to use and be asked to confirm your selections. When you have completed the LAN Manager installation, you must edit your PROTOCOL.INI file to set certain parameters. On a DOS workstation the file is located in the \LANMAN.DOS directory, and on an OS/2 workstation or server it is in the \LANMAN directory. You must set the parameters in the PROTOCOL.INI file to match the values selected when you installed and configured the board. Specify those values by placing them on the appropriate line in the PROTOCOL.INI file. Sample: PROTOCOL.INI: [NE2000_NIF] DRIVERNAME = NE2000E$ INTERRUPT = 3 IOADDRESS = 0x300 RAM = 0xD0000 For the allowed values in a DOS or OS/2 environment, see the section on PROTOCOL.INI parameters, below. Running Multiple NE2000 Adapters with Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2: The LAN Manager Setup program will load the drivers and set up the CONFIG.SYS and PROTOCOL.INI files for you. You must remember, however, to set/verify the INTERRUPT, IOADDRESS, and RAM parameters in the PROTOCOL.INI file manually for each of the adapters you have installed. If you wish to configure the drivers manually, follow the instructions below: Load the device driver additional times for each additional NE2000 adapter in your system. Sample: CONFIG.SYS device = C:\LANMAN\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\NE2000\NE2000.OS2 (add for second adapter) device = C:\LANMAN\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\NE2000\NE2000.OS2 Edit the PROTOCOL.INI file in C:\LANMAN as follows using configuration values determined during configuration. Sample: PROTOCOL.INI [NE2000_NIF] DRIVERNAME = NE2000E$ INTERRUPT = 3 IOADDRESS = 300 RAM = 0xD0000 (add for second adapter) [NE2000_NIF2] DRIVERNAME = NE2000E2$ INTERRUPT = 10 IOADDRESS = 320 RAM = 0xD8000 Reboot and start your LAN Manager system. SECTION 4. Microsoft Windows for Workgroups -------------------------------------------- The driver disk contains all the driver and support files to install in a Windows for Workgroups 3.1 environment. When installing or reconfiguring your Windows for Workgroups system, follow the instructions to install a UNDEFINED OR UPDATED NETWORK ADAPTER. This can be done either during initial installation when the network adapter selection menu appears, or from the NETWORK ADAPTER configuration program in the CONTROL PANEL. When you select UNDEFINED OR UPDATED NETWORK ADAPTER on the drivers menu, you will be prompted to put the NE2000plus Supplemental Driver Disk in the drive and press ENTER. Select "Microdyne NE2000plus Ethernet Adapter," and your driver files will be copied onto your hard disk. To complete the installation, set the Interrupt (IRQ), Base I/O Port, and Base Memory Address. Make sure these values match those you selected during card installation. (If you are using programmed I/O data transfer mode, the Base Memory Address setting will be ignored.) Click on OK to accept these choices, CLOSE to close the configuration window, then OK to complete installation. Click on OK two times to update CONFIG.SYS and PROTOCOL.INI. NOTE: If you are replacing network adapters or updating drivers, it is necessary for you to completely de-install your driver software before reinstalling it. From the NETWORK SETTINGS menu, select ADAPTER, to view the NETWORK ADAPTER menu. From here, highlight the adapter and select REMOVE and then CLOSE the window. Return completely to the CONTROL PANEL, then re-select the NETWORK menu, select ADAPTER and ADD to reinstall or update the driver software. The software driver installation is complete at this time, however you must reboot your system for these changes to take effect. SECTION 5.
