I like vintage computing really much so I appreciate the old net, a simple net were we link to each other, doing news and messages and exactly the thing I hoped the project IndieWeb would do. But it doesnt. But Gemini does it.
While vintage computing, I just found out there is an existing gemini browser for Amiga Computers. Great because Amigas are the only one in 2024 a lot of people and small companys building new hardware and software for it. So I will fire up my Amiga 1200 with Turbokarte and try out the AmiGemini called software.
[UPDATE] So if you are courius how it looks to browse gemini websites on an Amiga 1200 with Amiga OS 3.2, et voila :)
- AmiGemini is a browser for Gemini, Spartan, Gopher, Finger and Nex.
- Gopher is a text-only protocol that predates the Web.
- Gemini is heavier than Gopher but lighter than the Web.
- Gemini requires AmiSSL or a proxy to perform encryption.
- Spartan is like Gemini but does not require AmiSSL.
- Finger is a user information protocol that predates Gopher.
- Nex is a simple protocol inspired by Gopher and Gemini.
